Cricket Valley

By way of LA Observed, a lovely piece about the San Fernando Valley cricket scene.

Around the time "Lagaan" came out there was a fair amount of loose talk about going over there to check things out, watch some matches. But of course we never got it together.

These small regrets are starting to add up, for me. Settling to the bottom of the cup.

I am told that a book called "Netherland" by Joseph O'Neill -- another genre-friendly literary novel -- which is in part about Trinidadian cricketers in New York, is very good.

Part of the blurb:

Hans gets swept up by Chuck, a Trinidadian expatriate he meets at a cricket match. Chuck's dream is to build a cricket stadium in Brooklyn; in the meantime, he operates as a factotum for a Russian gangster.
