Those activities were surely no more a waste of time than watching "30 Rock," which isn't either. We no longer do these things because the circumstances of our lives have changed or (mostly, at least in my case) because we have way less energy now. So much easier just to rent a Netflick and then (easiest of all) not watch it. No need to run down the pursuits of the past to justify setting them aside in the present. If we really feel we're making the right choices, that should be enough.
