Chip Kidd on the new Murakami cover

Going to be looking at this one for a long time....A complicated construction, as Kidd explains, consisting of a binder cover with part of the image and and translucent vellum outer jacket with the rest.

(For the uninitiated, "Q" in Japanese is a homophone for the number "9")

Still six books away from being cleared to read this -- on the Kindle, of course, sooemthing of this scope. Maybe I'll step into a couple of stores to fondle the old-fashioned analog cover.

Reminds me that the new Rothfuss is underindexing (as we say in the biz) on e-books. In other words much higher on the NYT hardcover best seller list than the new e-boon best seller list.....

I would have thought it perfect for e-books, but maybe there's a collector angle.
