Wow! Edward from Twilight was there? He's so sparkly.

That's what it looks like....

Happily not so.

After one epsiode, still reserving judgment. I like him: great energy and gangly/floppy quality that fits the tradition. And Moffet clearly has fewer reservations about scaring the living shit out of 8-year-olds. My only real concern is that the new "Who" will be all about cleverness and running around having adventures; that it will elide the extra layer of drama added by Davies. That the Doctor will be more alien and less human? Time, as they say, will tell.

That may not be far from the truth. From a cursory reading of the comments on the Guardian blog, for example, I was surprised to find a large body of opinion that disdained as (put roughly) cheesy and sentimental the 'extended family' Davies material.

There are scenes in the second episode evidencing a surprising amount of casual intimacy between the Doctor and Amy.

Making her an orphan has a lot of fans -- although the coming attractions make it clear that the goofy fiance makes a reappearance.

I hasten to add, by the way, that I wouldn't know "Edward from Twilight" if he bit me (so to speak.

Giving up the need to know everything about popular movies means not needing to explore the enthusiasms of 11 year old girls.

You may not know Edward from Twilight, but you are certainly familiar with your Vampire Diaries.

Don't bite. Tulk knows perfectly well who Edward is. It's his "thing" to pretend ignorence of anything enjoyed by significant numbers of his fellow humans. I go along with the sham to spare his tender feelings.

Oh, I know the reference... I just wouldn't recognize him if he came to the door.

I've also only seen half of the pilot of Vampire Diaries -- which is why I blog anonymously.

If not Vampire Diaries, then certainly you are familiar with Underworld?

It's not the men one remembers from Underworld. At least not this one.
