It's an admirable attitude.

"A Prayer for Owen Meany" comes up a lot when non-boomers talk about their favorite novels (An analogous position to "Shawshank Redemption" among movies....)

Haven't read it myself, but found "A Widow for One Year" compelling, because Irving is able to handle so movingly a narrative extending over twenty years.

Realizing that I had not purchased but borrowed "Widow," I downloaded a Kindle copy after all. With the cover it's a very comfortable bus-reading experience; more so than almost any book.

Sexy, too. Movie version, "The Door in the Floor" (part one of the novel only), has Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger.
