Well, he's got big shoes to fill, but there's no reason to think of movie roles as belonging to one actor any more than we think that only one person can play Lear.
I dislike, as you may remember, applying the negative concept 'remake' to different versions of the same story. I think it's sort of cool that there's a new Pride and Prejudice every couple of years. And nobody called Branagh's Henry V a "remake" of Olivier's.
I think Oldman's got the chops, but we'll see. If not, wait twenty years or so and somebody who's a journeyman now can play the part.

I know -- and that's one of the main reasons for checking in.... A genre guy with a talent for actors.

He looks good, to me. Gray, weighed down, watchful. And Cumberbatch as his young assistant (as I recall the role). Nice.
