Robert van Gulick wrote, in the forties, a series of detective novels about a Judge Dee in Dutch: novels based on an 18th century Chinese source novel which he translated, all based on "the real statesman and detective Di Renjie, who lived in the seventh century during the Tang Dynasty," according to Wikipedia, which is never wrong.
This looks like nothing I've ever seen before, but I'll be in the audience on opening night.
Mr. Tsui was in negotiations to direct a script of mine, but the producers couldn't/wouldn't work around his DEE schedule. Sigh. Looks great, hope we get to see this one on the big screen...
