"Torchwood: Miracle Day" - Episode 5 review on IndieWIRE

Sacrifices are called for.

And for Torchwood completists.

UPDATE: Starz/BBC long-term deal.

Yes, that sacrifice was particularly resonant (and vicious). When this new series began, I found myself wondering who the sacrificial lamb would be (as per RTD's belief that terrible situations must also have terrible consequences), but I hadn't thought it would be her. Who's next, I wonder?

Pedantics alert: weren't we told one or two episodes ago that the dead were so "willed" to life that they were spared unconsciousness? I don't see how "Category 1" squares with this, because suddenly there are a lot of unconscious dead people around. Just sayin'.

You'd think that after Ianto, RTD's thirst for sacrifice would have been sated.

A writer on this blog was overheard muttering "Should have been fucking Rhys..."

I assume the category 1s aren't actually unconscious, just so sick and immobilised that they can't move, react, etc--ie, they're lying there awake the whole time.

Perhaps the point is that the condition is ambiguous, no-one can say for sure whether Cat 1s are conscious or not, and people believe what they want to believe. The kind of echo RTD always seems to be looking for.

On the other hand, it was Captain Jack who said brightly, "Why don't we try cutting its head off?"
