Not a livery stable.

So. Dalyrimple faults Hitchens for not abjectly enough rejecting his Trotskyism of thirty-five years ago and for showing an immature lack of gravitas in the expression of his opinions.

He also finds him "talented, amusing, witty, and erudite, with an impressive range of literary reference at his disposal. His personality is engaging, and he does not seem spiteful, malicious, or petty (common characteristics of those who lead the life of the mind)."

Appears to be nothing left but suicide for ol' Hitch.

They can put "Wrong at twenty-five. Talented, amusing, witty, and erudite." on his tombstone.

Peter, of course, not worthy of even a passing sneer.

Peter is in a lot of ways the more sympathetic of the two: Salieri to his bother's Mozart, he's very well known in the UK for his tabloid column of stodgy and close to cartoony traditional right-wing views..

A couple of typical Peter Hitchens rants from The Mail on Sunday. Hitchens, not Tulkinghorn. These are quotes:

I know I will annoy many of you by continuing to urge you not to vote for David Cameron’s anti-British, pro-crime, anti-education, pro-immigration rabble.

.........

one of the greatest civilisations the world has ever seen, based on individual liberty. Who wouldn’t be proud and pleased to be living in such a place?

And who – knowing these things – wouldn’t instinctively stand and defend those liberties against insolent authority, panic-mongering morons trying to make our flesh creep with exaggerated tales of terror, numbskull Ministers who can’t see why Habeas Corpus matters, wooden-headed coppers who want to be continental gendarmes, demanding our papers?
